Lease of Toshiba Copier becomes national security debate

The lease of an officer copier became a matter of national security in the town of Randall Thursday night. Town Supervisor Robert Gehring, as a matter of principal, disagrees with the lease or purchase of any product of Toshiba

Supervisor Robert Gehring objected to the town leasing a Toshiba copier because of “questions of security” involving the company and Soviet Union submarines. “It doesn’t necessarily have to be a U.S. company, just not this one,” Gehring said in explaining his position. “”If there’s something else available, I prefer something else.” Gehring was apparently referring to a 1987 incident involving a Toshiba subsidiary making an illegal sale of equipment to the Soviet Union. Says Wikipedia: ”… Toshiba Machine, a subsidiary of Toshiba, was accused of illegally selling CNC milling machines used to produce very quiet submarine propellers to the Soviet Union in violation of the CoCom agreement, an international embargo on certain countries to COMECON countries. The Toshiba-Kongsberg scandal involved a subsidiary of Toshiba and the Norwegian company Kongsberg Vaapenfabrikk.

The incident strained relations between the United States and Japan, and resulted in the arrest and prosecution of two senior executives, as well as the imposition of sanctions on the company by both countries. The US had always relied on the fact that the Soviets had noisy boats, so technology that would make the USSR’s submarines harder to detect created a significant threat to America’s security. Duplexing is also known as Inverting, Reversing or Double Sided. 3) Press "Email"
4) Press "Email Address"

6) Turn on divided data destination if file is to large for email data limit
7) Press "File Format"
8) Press PDF (if not already default)
9) Choice 2 sided if scanning double sided scanning
10) Choice file size for 200 dpi to 600 dpi

How to setup Fax Conformation How to setup Fax Conformation Fax Conformation setup will allow you to either print, don't print or print when error when fax has been used. Here is how you setup this Function

(4) Fax Tx Report

Choose Your Options
For Error Only (if you only want a conformation when the fax has some type of error if transmission was ok nothing will print)
On (Prints a conformation always),
Off (Does not print any conformations)

Side note * some imageRUNNER and Color imageRUNNER devices will also allow you to pint reduced 1st page image on the conformation report The Fax Interface is an option on most Canon imageRUNNER and Color imageRUNNER Copiers and MFP's

As you are well aware, there have been unprecedented disruptive changes in the economy, resulting in increased pressure on the financial sector. These changes have necessitated that we review the markets in which we currently do business with a focus on profitability, risk and the ability to provide a competitive product. As a result of our internal review and these current market conditions, Key Equipment Finance (KEF) has decided to exit the copier segment. This was a difficult decision based on the current market environment, and in no way a reflection on your business or the relationship that we have established.

We would like to make you aware of some important dates and information that may impact your business:
For those dealers not previously deactivated, KEF will continue to accept new lessee credit applications submitted prior to the close of business on July 15, 2009. KEF will honor unexpired approvals under the terms outlined in such approvals. The portfolio of leases for existing customers will continue to be supported until the end of their term.
Your rights and obligations with respect to the portfolio of existing customers will continue as set forth in your agreement with KEF.
